Can you believe that it’s already time to start thinking about the back-to-school season? I can’t. It feels like summer just started, but sure enough, the end is rapidly approaching, and it’s time for me to start getting my fall snack game in order. I’m always looking for simple, affordable, and nutritious solutions for my kiddo during the fall, and this ham on a long totally fits the bill!
Even though we homeschool, snack time is a huge part of our day. It means giving my son a great little break from school work while giving him a chance to fuel his body and his mind. That’s why I love this snack– it’s so easy, but it also tastes great and is good fuel, too!
When I’m stocking up on great stuff for after school snacks, I turn to Walmart for affordability and convenience. I especially love visiting their Deli Meat counter for high-quality, affordable Deli Meat for my family. Every time I go, I get enough Eckrich Deli Meat for my family. My son loves to watch them slice the meat and weigh it as he sits in the cart!
For me, it just makes sense to buy my Deli Meat at the Deli Meat counter! I can get exactly the amount my family needs, meaning no food waste, and I know it’s nice and fresh, too!

How to Make Ham on a Log
This ham on a log recipe is SO simple to make. It starts with the delicious, creamy filling. You’ll want to mix softened cream cheese, garlic, and mozzarella. I found that microwaving mine for about 15-20 seconds made it much easier to mix and spread, but if your cream cheese is thoroughly softened, you’re all set.
In terms of garlic, my family likes a lot of garlic, so we added more. You can add a little less, so adjust it according to your taste!
Wash and trim celery, then cut it into bite sized sticks. Spread half of them with the cream cheese mixture, filling the little well in the celery with it.
Use cashew butter or another favorite nut butter on the other half of the celery for a sweet treat to pair with the savory ham on a log!
Next, you’ll want to add some delicious Eckrich Deli Meat! I love the Eckrich Virginia Brand Ham for the great flavor it brings to the table, but there are so many more reasons to love Eckrich ham! Eckrich best-selling hams are specially trimmed for great, consistent quality. They even have a wide flavor variety, too! Eckrich ham is gluten free, made with quality natural smoked and natural juice hams.
You’ll want to roll up each slice of Eckrich ham, then slice those rolls to the right length for your ham on a log. Of course, the meat is great on it’s own or on a sandwich, too!
Finish by topping the sweet nut butter-topped celery with favorite dried fruits! We love dried strawberries, raisins, and cherries here, but any dried fruit makes the perfect topper. Then serve this delicious sweet-and-savory snack to your favorite kiddos anytime they need a great treat. Make extra, and it’s a good hearty lunch when paired with some pretzel sticks, crackers, or yogurt!
I love serving simple snacks like this because they require very little prep and they’re delicious. I love that my whole family can enjoy these!
Eckrich is all about tradition, flavor, and affordability. My family is all about these things, too, making it the perfect choice when we head to the Walmart Deli Meat Counter. Eckrich offers a full line of great deli meats across many different proteins, and any one of those great proteins would work perfectly on this afternoon snack! These ham on a log snacks could just as easily become beef on a log or bologna on a log by swapping out Eckrich Original Roast Beef or Eckrich Garlic Bologna! I can’t wait to try one of those pairings next!
