There is a horrible misconception going around, and I feel like I have to clear it up with y’all. There are people in this world… I can’t believe I even have to type this out… that think play dates are exclusively for kids. Shhh, don’t tell, but some of us know the real reason play dates exist. Sure, they’re great for kids, don’t get me wrong. I mean, as a homeschool mom, I love for my son to have play dates and get some socialization. But let’s be real.

Play dates are for moms.

There, I said it. Play dates are just as much for moms as they are for kids. They’re for all the moms that are pulling their hair out because they can’t remember the last time they had a conversation that wasn’t about a show on one of the kid’s channels. It’s for the moms who go take a shower… and their child sits on the toilet to talk to them still. See, every employee gets a break. 15 minutes, even, to just… take a break from work.

Play Dates are that break. And I know we want the best for our kids– I know we want our kids to get to see their friends and spend time together. I know we love taking our kids to the park so they can get that play-in-the-dirt and spin-too-fast-on-the-merry-go-round kind of feeling. But moms do play dates for moms, too.

Now, I love my son. I wouldn’t trade the shower conversations and kids shows for anything. Don’t get me wrong. I love that time spent together. But there is this feeling of joy when you know you’re about to have a conversation with another adult for the first time in a few days.

Moments like that call for something special. And by special, I mean way more special than the half-crushed penguin crackers at the bottom of your mom bag. I mean something interesting.

Interesting, like… Fajita Burrito Bowls interesting. Interesting like, paired with Aquafina Sparkling interesting. These Fajita Burrito Bowls in a jar are SO easy to make that you’ll even want to make them outside of play date times, so you can feel that inner joy that comes along with play dates.

To make them, you’ll want to start by cooking your favorite rice. I just use quick white rice, but if you have something you prefer more, go for it. This recipe makes two jars– one for you, and one for your play date bestie. Life is just better shared.

Also, dice two chicken breasts into smaller pieces. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder for seasoning, and cook on the stovetop until they’re done. Set the chicken aside.

Slice bell peppers and an onion, then dice up jalapeno peppers really finely. Cook those in a skillet with a little drizzle of oil.

Once all of your ingredients are cooked, it’s time to start assembling your Fajita Burrito Bowl jars. I like to add some lime juice to my rice for a little pep, and if you like cilantro, you can add that, too!

In the bottom of a jar, layer taco sauce, rice, and your cooked chicken.

Top that with black beans, cheese if you’d like, and your sauteed veggies. Finish off with shredded lettuce, chopped cherry tomatoes, and sour cream or plain Greek yogurt (it’s a better-for-you that is almost exactly the same in flavor!)

Twist the lid on, toss the jars and a couple of forks into your bag, and add in a couple of cans of Aquafina Sparkling, put on your favorite yoga pants, and you’re play date ready.

These fajita burrito bowls are packed with flavor and way better than a smushed peanut butter and jelly, and I guarantee if you bring a second jar along for your play date bestie, she’ll be your BFF for life. Simply open, enjoy, and chat while you watch your kids go across the monkey bars again and again. They’re a great portable picnic lunch and they can be enjoyed anywhere YOU are, whether you’re having a play date at the park or the zoo.

They also pair perfectly with Aquafina Sparkling. I love Aquafina Sparkling for play dates especially because it’s absolutely delicious– it’s the perfect balance of fun fizziness and a hint of flavor, and since they’re now available in an 8 pack, I have some on hand all the time!  My favorite standby is Orange Grapefruit (I just love citrus flavors, and it pairs really well with the lime rice in the fajita jars!) but Aquafina Sparkling just released 2 new flavors: Mango Pineapple and Black Cherry Dragonfruit.
