Your February Must-Do List

February may be the shortest month of the year, but there's still plenty to do this month! Here are some ideas of things you must do during the month of February!

Oh my gosh. It’s already February. Seriously, though, didn’t the ball drop like… yesterday? Whether or not you got the January Must-Do list done, it’s time to shake it off, move on, and get ready for the month of luuuuv. Now, February is a short month. We can’t have 31 day months all the time, now can we? That’d be too easy. With only 28 days to knock out the list, best to get moving, right? Let’s go…

1. Clean out your jammie drawer. It’s not quite warm enough yet to switch over to a spring wardrobe, no matter how much you want to, so skip the closet cleanout this month and go for your pajama drawer. Get rid of the pajamas with holes, the ones that you wouldn’t want the firefighters to see if you had to leave your house in the middle of the night, and the ones that fit a whole lot better a few years back. Pare down to your favorites (and use a bare drawer as an excuse to pick out a new set or two– I’m partial to some oversized thermal tops I found in the clearance section of Target) and start February with a fresh, clean jammie drawer. And if you aren’t a single momma like me, maybe you’ll find (or add) something spicy to that drawer for hubs this month. Wink.

2. Create an art gallery in your kids’ rooms. Zach and I have had SO much fun lately by creating a custom gallery by his bed. Filled with canvases from our Color Theme Unit, a banner from our Koala Crate, favorite photographs of his favorite people (like his uncle. Seriously, aren’t I way cooler? Like, what the heck, man…), and more, Zach’s bedside is so… totally… Zach. It’s one place that we have really made an effort to make a great display of his art because he loves to look at it at the end of the day. And what’s awesome is we’ve built it together on a lot of “Zach, that looks SO great! What a great choice to put by your bed– I love that painting!” making him feel confident about his hard work. So, pick a wall, clear it off, and start curating a special gallery of your own. You never know, your kid could be the next Picasso and that first gallery could be worth a lot someday (like a totally priceless amount).

3. Find your favorite sick beat. Right now, I’m rocking out to T. Swift, as much as I pretended for so long not to totally love her tunes. Pick one set of songs that makes you feel insanely confident, happy, and like every day is summer, and make a point to listen to it whenever you need a pick-me-up.

4. Tackle that to-do list from last month. You know the one, the jotted notes in the side of your planner of all of the things you wanted to do, and didn’t get done. Now’s the time, before spring break, before the summer crazies, so just do it!

5. Download the VarageSale app and get plugged into some communities in your area, just in time for spring cleaning. You know what it’s like– in a few weeks, the weather is going to get nice, and garage sales will be EVERYWHERE. All of that clutter that everyone’s been stashing away until it was nice enough to pull it out will be out on display. And if you’ve ever had a garage sale, you’ll know how NOT worth your time it is. So skip the garage sale this year and use the VarageSale app to sell all of that junk you have to have out of your house like now. Take a pic, post it, and get it out of your house.

6. Visit a great exhibit at your local children’s museum (or any museum, if you’re kid-free). If you’re in the Kansas City area, we recommend the Xtreme Bugs exhibit and the new permanent exhibits at Science City. Winter means it’s not the best time for heading out to parks, and it’s not time for swimming or anything awesome like that, so take time to go to a children’s museum as a great indoor activity. If you are lucky enough to find a traveling exhibit that rocks, make it a habit to go again and again!

7. Make biscuits with chocolate gravy. Trust me, it’s so delicious and really easy and the perfect Valentine’s day breakfast. Even if you use store bought biscuits, whip up chocolate gravy. It’s a can’t-miss for the month where, outside of red and pink, CHOCOLATE is the primary color. Get the recipe for chocolate gravy here.

8. Re-adjust your budget. If you’re like me, you set a goal to manage money better in 2015. Now that you’re one month in, it’s time to re-evaluate and see what’s working, and what’s not.

9. Curl up and read Valentine’s books! Here’s a list with plenty of ideas to get you started when it comes to books for children from toddlers to teens!

10. Take inventory of your pantry. What are you running low on? Check the sales ads and re-stock as needed. Plus, the winter months are the perfect time to clean out the freezer, because a great soup can have a huge variety of ingredients. We often look at what meat and veggies are needing to go and toss them into a broth for a delicious stew in the cold February winter!

What’s on your must-do list this month?

  1. I’ll admit, there’s a certain movie on my list this month that I just have to see. All I’ll say about it is that it’ll probably be the biggest movie this month! 😉 Call it a guilty pleasure, along with watching “The Apprentice” – season finale cannot wait! And, I too will admit, that I love Taylor Swift! Her music is just too darn catchy, that you can’t help but sing along!
